How to Subtly Escape An Annoying Email Conversation in Gmail

We’ve all been stuck in email threads that go on and on. Most of the time it’s work, but your family is just as likely to carry on drawn out conversations over email that don’t have anything to do with you.

If you’ve had enough, there is a way out of that annoying email thread, if you’re using Gmail. No one will know that you’ve dropped out of the conversation, and you can avoid having to write to everyone and tell them “Please leave me off of your pointless emails. Thanks!”

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Select the offending email by checking the box to the right.

  1. Click on the “More” drop-down menu located above the inbox. Select the “Mute” option.

Your annoying email is now muted! New messages in the thread skip the inbox! You can also try this alternative method by muting form the open email itself.

  1. In the open email, select the “More” drop-down and find “Mute.” Click it and you’re done.

Just keep in mind that you may want to monitor the conversation just in case something important does come up. If it does and you miss it, don’t blame us.
