Next time you feel like getting off the couch to grab a donut, or a second donut, redirect yourself and go for a short, brisk walk – and your craving will disappear!
An Australian study surveyed a group of overweight people who walked or sat sill for 15 minutes and then studied their desire to eat sugary foods. People who had been moving around displayed much lower desires for the sweets than those who sat still.
The science behind the results consists of the fact that physical activity tends to alleviate stress, which is often the cause of “emotional eating,” as opposed to healthy eating, which derives from actual hunger.
Next time you’re feeling tempted, simply head out the front door and take a short stroll.
