Despite what you might think, you can clean your kitchen without the chemical-heavy commercial cleaning products that everyone seems to use without thinking twice.

Here are a few clever kitchen cleaning hacks using only natural and non-harmful substances:

1. Fridge

a. Place a few tabs of alka-seltzer in a glass at the back of the fridge in order to neutralize any odors.

b. Place a few cotton balls soaked in vanilla extract at the back of the fridge for a few days to introduce a nice smell.

c. Clean under the fridge with a tube sock covering a broom handle

2. Freezer

a. Clean the walls of the freezer with a spray bottle full of hot water mixed with a few tablespoons of vinegar and baking soda.

b. Activated charcoal can absorb odors in the freezer

3. Dishwasher

a. Clean out and deodorize the dishwasher by putting a packet of lemon Kool-Aid in an empty dishwasher. The citric acid will clean stains and lime deposits.

4. Oven

a. Avoid hard-to-clean baked-in food stains by throwing a bunch of salt on any spill-over from pots and pans as they happen.

b. Scrub dirty oven walls with a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. Apply this paste to any stains and let sit for a few minutes. Scrub thoroughly with half of a lemon covered in salt.

5. Stove

a. To clean a glass stovetop, wet a rag with a mixture of hot water and dish soap. Apply baking soda on dirty spots and then drip water from the rag. Let the wet spots sit for a few minutes and then clean with rag.

6. Microwave

a. Breakdown caked on stains inside a microwave by microwaving a bowl of water mixed with vinegar on high power for two minutes. The resulting steam will make stains easier to clean.
