Anyone (19% of the population) who has trouble going to the bathroom knows that at certain times, you will try anything just to relieve yourself of the burden of constipation. Lots of commercial products are out there to help: fiber powder, stool softeners, cleanses, etc. However, there might be a simple, natural way to promote timely and regular defecation.
It’s well-known that eating fiber-rich foods and getting some exercise promote defecation. However, the Journal of General Internal Medicine revealed a simple and easy trick to promoting a poop: massaging your perineum – the funny length of skin between your private parts and your butt. Under the perineum is a special pressure point, that when stimulated, can ease constipation.
This advice might not be as strange as it sounds; pregnant women have, for years, been advised to massage the perineum in order to relax the area and prevent damage during labor. Researchers wondered whether a similar practice could help sufferers of constipation.
A group of 100 constipation-suffering study subjects was divided into two groups: after four weeks of trials, the group that had been shown how to massage their perineum experienced improved bowel function. Subjects reported that the technique helped soften their stools and commented that they would happily continue to use the helpful trick.
From now on, in addition to eating fibrous foods, try a perineal massage and watch your poop fly out of your anus like butter!
